Church Records
Looking for Family Records?
A Parish Church has existed for centuries on this site and thousands of baptisms, weddings and funerals have been held in the present and past church buildings. Because records require lots of space and must be kept securely, in an environment that has controlled temperature, humidity and light levels it is no longer possible to store all our ancient records at the church. So all Marriage records prior to 1996, Burial records prior to 1946, Baptismal records prior to 1986, Confirmation Registers prior to 2008, Parish Magazines prior to 2002, have been transferred to:
Cheshire and Chester Archives and Local Studies Service, Cheshire Record Office, Duke Street, Chester, Cheshire. CH1 1RL. United Kingdom
Phone : 44 (0)1244 972574 Fax : 44 (0)1244 973812 Email : recordoffice@cheshiresharedservices.gov.uk
If you have enquiries about tracing records of baptisms, marriages and funerals in your family’s past you can write to them or use their website:
http://www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/recordoffice
and a list of the documents stored with them is to be found in the National Archives website:
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/a2a/records.aspx?cat=017-p56&cid=0#0
If your enquiry relates to records after those dates listed above, please apply in writing to The Vicar, Sandbach Parish Church, The Cobbles, Sandbach, Cheshire CW11 1AT
We hope in the next few years to do a big piece of work on the inscriptions on the monuments in the church graveyard. As far as we know, at present there is no record available for these.
Good luck with your family history research.
