The Revd Thomas Shepherd gave his last service on Sunday 29th September 2019. It was the Parish Eucharist at 10am, Michaelmas (15th Sunday after Trinity).
This was a wonderful service, the usual one for the time of year with an interesting sermon from Thomas about the 'ministries of angels and mortals in a wonderful order'. The choir sang hymns which were both relevant for the service and also meaningful to Thomas.
At the end of the service there were tributes given to Thomas for his hard work in the parish over these 11 years in Sandbach. Tributes were given from Anne Birch, the church warden, Bob Wharne a long standing member of the congregation and Mike Muldoon the mayor of the town council. Presentations were given from Thomas to the parish as leaving gifts, and the Shepherds were given leaving gifts from the congregation and another one from the town council.
The formalities over most of the congregation and the Shepherd family and friends enjoyed a parish meal in the church hall. As usual alot of effort was put in by many people to provide a fabulous meal. More speeches were made in an informal manner and there was a great atmosphere celebrating Thomas and Catherine's work in the parish and wishing them all the best in Thomas' retirement.
The Choir and Music Group said a big Thank You to Catherine at her last Choir Practice on Friday 27th October 2019.
Below are some photographs of the farewell as Thomas retires 25 years to the day of entering the ministry of the Church of England.
